Elden Ring excited fans when it was first announced during E3 2019. The collaboration between FromSoftware and George R. R. Martin could potentially make for an interesting and exciting game. That being said, since its initial announcement, very little else has been revealed. Now however, in a recent interview with FromSoftware, more information has been divulged.
In a recent interview conducted in Japanese, and later fan-translated, the studio revealed that Elden Ring “is larger and deeper than anything we’ve done before,” adding that “the game has got a sort of ‘open-worlded-ness’ to it with wide open areas where you can ride your horse and things, it seems there are scenes like that in the game so, well,… There’s a feeling of a world here, I suppose, right?”
Speaking on the themes of the game, the rep described Elden Ring as “a very painful fantasy drama… There’s pain there and from a human perspective there are themes of racism, politics, citizenship, and so on (…) So this is a work that is psychologically quote (sic) painful in a lot of ways.”
Some of what was revealed here was previously reported by leaks prior to the game’s official announcement. Still it is interesting to see the perspective that FromSoftware is coming from when tackling the development of Elden Ring. Hopefully we won’t have too long to wait to see more from this much-anticipated game.
