Rocksteady Batman game reportedly in development as cross-gen title

With Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s post-launch support prematurely coming to an end last year, Rocksteady looks set to move on to their next major project. Rumoured to be another Batman title, a new job listing has now popped up offering a bunch of interesting details.

As discovered by ResetEra user ‘PSES’, Rocksteady recently published a new job listing looking for a ‘Senior Core Engine Programmer’. As part of the job description for an “unannounced AAA title”, the post notes:

“Your work will enable the team to deliver the highest quality game experience on our target hardware, including high-end PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and the next generation of consoles.”

Beyond the confirmation that the game will be a cross-gen release (meaning it will likely launch alongside the next-gen consoles in 2027 or so), the post also revealed that the team are planning to utilise Unreal Engine 5 for their next project.

While not surprising given the fact that Rocksteady has a long history with UE, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League ran on Unreal Engine 4, and so it will be interesting to see what Rocksteady will be able to achieve with these updated tools.

Following the disappointment that was Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, hopefully Rocksteady will be able to prove themselves worthy of their high reputation.
