The PlayStation 5 continues to break Sony sales records

After a somewhat slow start due component supply issues, Sony announced at the beginning of the year that PS5 consoles should no longer be in short supply. We have seen this pan out, with the console sales skyrocketing over the past few months. Now, it has been revealed that last month represented the single best February for a PlayStation console in the history of the platform.

As reported by Matt Piscatellaand elaborated on by Benji-Sales via Twitter – “February 2023 PlayStation 5 sales were the highest EVER for any PlayStation console in the month of February [in the US],” clarifying that “Even PS2 and PS4 at their peaks never sold in February as much as PS5 just did”. This follows on from similar broken records both across the UK and the EU in recent months.

The PS5 is seemingly not going to slow down at all, and could in fact break further records this month, with Sony forecasting the biggest Q1 for any console in history. Of course, we will have to wait to see whether this pans out, but based on the PS5’s performance over the past few months it is not inconceivable at all.

The latest official numbers put the PS5 at having sold 32 million units since its launch in November 2020. As mentioned however, the past few years were plagued with supply issues leading to Sony not being able to keep up with demand. If the PS5 however continues to sell at its new current rate, the sky is truly the limit. It will be interesting to see what PlayStation’s Q1 numbers look like.
