Ubisoft’s free-to-play ‘Roller Champions’ gets release date

Roller Champions is a competitive roller skating game with three simple rules: catch the ball, do a lap while keeping it in your team’s possession, and score. Announced all the way back in E3 2019, the game was originally intended to release in 2021. Though that never came to be, Roller Champions’ has finally gotten a release date – and it’s sooner than you might think.

Making the announcement on the PlayStation Blog, Arthur Soporan, the Communication Advisor at Ubisoft announced that “Roller Champions is coming to PS4 (and PS5 via backwards compatibility) on May 25, offering fast-paced, competitive, free-to-play matches in which you can rise to sports-legend glory.”

Early impressions of Roller Champions, while perhaps not representative of the current state of the game, was mostly positive, with Ubisoft’s willingness to bet on niche and unusual sports hopefully paying off.

Combining football, basketball, handball, roller derby and more, Roller Champions is hard to explain to someone who has not yet played it.

Fortunately, the game is releasing on the 25th of this month, meaning you’ll get the chance to make your own mind up on Roller Champions – especially because it will be free. Hopefully the game’s economy is a fair one.
