Xbox partners with Toys For Bob for their first independent game

Following the acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft, one of the publisher’s dozen+ studios – Toys for Bob – expressed their desire to be independent. Microsoft obliged late last month, freeing the Crash/Spyro devs from their new owners. The positive outcome with Microsoft has now led to a 2nd-party relationship, with Xbox funding the team’s next game.

Late last month as part of the announcement that Toys For Bob would be going independent, the studio revealed that they wished to still work with and alongside Microsoft, saying at the time: “we’re exploring a possible partnership between our new studio and Microsoft.”

It seems as though a deal has been struck, with WindowsCentral reporting that the studio has “finalized an agreement with Xbox to fund their first title.”

Despite continuing to work with Microsoft, Toys For Bob going independent offers many benefits – hopefully leading to greater long-term health.

Though independent, it is still very possible that the team’s next project will be related to Spyro or Crash Bandicoot. We will have to wait and see.

KitGuru says: What do you think of the announcement? Would you prefer to see a new Crash or Spyro game from Toys For Bob? Or would you rather they develop a brand new IP? Let us know down below.
