Windows 11 is getting a new reinstallation method through Windows Update

Microsoft is poised to introduce a new built-in recovery method for Windows 11, allowing users to reinstall or recover the OS without losing any existing files. The new function, named “Fix Problems with Windows Update,” is already available for Insiders via Windows Update but is expected to make its way to a stable release soon.

There are multiple ways to reinstall Windows, whether using the Media Creation Tool, a general ISO image, or the “Reset this PC” feature, each serving its purpose based on the user's needs. This new method, however, differs slightly as it leverages Windows Update. In more detail, it downloads and installs a “repair version” of the OS without removing any files, settings, or apps. Once the process is complete, the repaired content is displayed on the Windows Update Settings page with the title appended with “(repair version).”

The new feature will be accessible through the ‘Settings > System > Recovery' menu, expediting the restoration of Windows 11 in various situations. Insiders on the Canary Channel and other eligible channels can already use the Beta version of this tool.

In addition to this new reinstallation method, the next major Windows 11 update, due in February, will bring quality-of-life enhancements, such as improved digital pen functionality, enhanced emoji appearance, and the addition of the AI Hub to the Microsoft Store.
