Apple launch new Mac Mini – nVidia 320m graphics

This morning we noticed that Apple have silently upgraded the Mac Mini, complete with nVidia 320m graphics.

Many people had been wondering if Apple were finally going to can the Mini as the updates have been longer coming but it seems that isn't the case.

The Mac Mini is a great media machine and the newest release is just 3.6cm in height with a complete aluminium frame. Inside there is a 2.4ghz Core 2 Duo processor with 2GB of DDR3 memory (up to 8GB is now supported). This is paired up with a 320GB hard drive and new nVidia Geforce 320m graphics with 256mb of DDR3 memory onboard. Finally they have added an HDMI port which will appeal to the HTPC audience. On the rear there is also an SD slot with Gigabit ethernet, Wireless N and Bluetooth 2.1.

While this machine is not a powerhouse, the power requirements have always been minimal and this has been further improved with 10w drain at idle, 25 percent better than the last generation unit.

Apple are also promoting the machine into the business market with a 2.66ghz Core 2 Duo processor paired up with 4GB of DDR3 with dual 500GB hard drives (at the loss of the optical drive). This comes with Snow Leopard Server installed.

“The sleek, aluminum Mac mini packs great features, versatility and value into an elegant, amazingly compact design,” said Apple's Philip Schiller. “With twice the graphics performance, HDMI support and industry-leading energy efficiency, customers are going to love the new Mac mini.”

The standard machine costs £649 and the business version £929.

KitGuru says: These are really sexy little machines and ideal for a living room environment.
