Huawei was set to unveil their Windows Phone 8 line-up last month but was later delayed for reasons unknown. Fortunately, announcement delays don’t affect leaks of rumoured devices and the Huawei Ascend W1 has been given that treatment.
Straight away the pictures of the Ascend W1 reveal that Huawei’s engineers have had some obvious design inspirations from HTC and Nokia. HTC’s famous camera bulge from the One X is present and so is Nokia’s curvy style and cyan blue colour scheme.
Reported specifications for the Ascend W1 include a 4 inch WVGA display, 1.2 GHz processor, 512 MB of memory a 2000 mAh battery and a variety of colours. One thing to note is the strange location of the Micro USB slot in the above picture. It has been thought for a while the port would be standardised in the middle for maximum accessory compatibility.
KitGuru says: Huawei are a growing force in the smartphone arena, and regardless of design inspiration the Ascend W1 looks to be a strong competitor if it also combined Huawei’s typically low asking prices.
