MSI have released a fine looking AMD based laptop – The FX610. There are two models being offered, based around a dual core P340 Athlon II and the Tri core P840 Phenom II processor.
The Phenom II model is going to retail at €699 (thats euros, we haven’t got confirmed UK pricing yet) and the Athlon II at €599. The Phenom machine comes with a larger 500GB hard drive, while the Athlon II ships with a 320GB drive.
Both machines will be based around the AMD RS880M+SB710 chipset and both have DX11 capable Radeon Mobility HD5470 graphics. This graphics solution is no power house, but we looked at it in our recent review of the Dell Inspiron One 23 and we were pleasantly surprised by how capable it was, if you didn’t mind lowering the IQ.
4GB of memory is installed in both machines and the 15.6 inch LED backlit screen runs at 1366×768 resolution. There is 802.11bgn WiFi, HD Webcam and integrated ‘stereo theatre class speakers’ onboard. HDMI, VGA output is offered for connection to a bigger panel, always good to see. Surprisingly they have included an eSATA connector with the 3 x USB 2.0 ports and a 6 cell battery. Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit is installed, so no compliants there either.
Kitguru says: Good pricing for a solid specification.
