Pokémon TCG Pocket surpasses 150 million downloads ahead of 1st anniversary

Pokémon as a series has done extremely well on modern smartphone platforms, with one needing to look no further than the viral hit that was/is Pokémon Go. Though not quite as all-encompassing, last year’s Pokémon TCG Pocket has found a substantial audience over the previous 12 months – having now officially surpassed 150 million downloads.

Making the announcement via a press release, The Pokémon Company detailed their upcoming ‘Mega Rising’ Expansion coming to Pokémon TCG Pocket on the 30th of October; exactly one year on from its initial release.

Alongside this, the team confirmed that since its arrival just under a year ago, the digital collectible card game has garnered over 150 million downloads in total across iOS and Android.

For context, TCG Pocket hit its first major milestone just under one week into its launch, surpassing 10 million total downloads. The next milestone announcement came roughly a month later, when it was revealed to have reached 60 million downloads. Finally, Pokémon TCG Pocket hit the big 100 million in March of this year (around 4 months following launch).

So, while the game ‘only’ managed to add half the number of players in twice the amount of time since hitting 100 million, the game is continuing to grow at a steady pace – even if it’s not going to reach the highs of Pokémon Go.
