HTC Flyer will sell for £599 – priced too high?

HTC are launching a new 7 inch tablet in the UK, the HTC Flyer, set to target the Apple iPad 2 sales. At £599 it's one of the more expensive tablets on the market.

The Carphone Warehouse are already taking pre orders with 3G and Wifi at £599.99 and they will start shipping the units in early May. This price is pretty much what people expected, is it competitive enough to take stand in such a competitive market place?

The iPad 2 with 32GB, Wi-Fi and 3G is £579, which is £20 more than the iPad 2 with Wifi and 3G. It is also more expensive than the 3G version of the Motorola Xoom, which also has a larger screen, higher specifications and version 3.0 Android Honeycomb.

HTC have said that the Flyer will run an enhanced version of Android 2.4 ‘Gingerbread', which won't be a popular move with the enthusiast audience who want the latest V3.0.

The HTC Flyer is supplied with 1GB of memory, a 1.5GHZ processor, 32GB storage and a 1024×600 multi touch display. There is an SD slot available to expand storage by another 32GB if desired.

KitGuru says: It will have a tough time winning sales at this price, even if it is brilliant.
