Sony to release Playstation Vita end of year

Sony are hoping that their upcoming Playstation Vita portable is more of a success than the flagging Nintendo 3DS. According to latest reports, they are due to release the Vita in Japan in the middle of December.

The company have said that the release will unfortunately miss the Christmas/end of year sales in Europe and America, and the price is set to be 24,980 yen (£210) for the WiFi Version and 29,980 yen (£250) for the 3G Model.

American prices are already announced, with the Wifi only model set to cost around $250, and the 3G version costing $300.

Sony have a lot riding on the success of this portable console and they hope that it will generate similar sales to the Playstation 3, which however did have a slow start. With Nintendo struggling to shift the 3DS and being forced to drop the price by 40% in the first six months, there is said to be an air of caution within Sony, according to our sources.

The Playstation Vita has a five inch screen, a similar size to the Dell Streak, but it is a multi touch OLED screen with a pad on the back which will handle various finger motions. It also has front and rear mounted cameras.
