KITGURU SHORTLISTS: THE BEST SPEAKERS OF 2019

While close to half the KitGuru audience listen to audio on a headset, the rest of you love speakers. There’s something about the chest-rattling drive from a solid bass set up that is hard to replace with a pair of headphones. Then there’s the statement of style. Check our shortlist of the best speakers we’ve seen to date.

Edifier S2000 Pro Active 2.0 Speakers - A Touch Of Class

Th S2000 Pro speakers are the best we have heard from Dongguan-based manufacturer Edifier. The S2000 Pro may be lacking a dedicated sub-woofer, but the bass response is still really impressive for speakers of this size, while you don't lose out on any detail in the high-end either. AirPulse A100 Active Speakers (Phil Jones Design)

Edifier's AirPulse A100 speakers are exceptionally well made, with a distinctive red cabinet design. They feature ribbon tweeters, ensuring better transient response and extended frequency range compared to a traditional tweeter setup, and overall you'd be hard pressed to find similar quality in other bookshelf-sized speakers at this price point. They simply offer an exceptionally clean and clear sound which makes the A100 a joy to use.

If you're not looking to break the bank, and don't have room for anything bigger, this is a great option.

Razer Nommo Pro 2.1 Speakers

We're impressed with Razer's latest desktop speaker offerings, especially the top end Nommo Pro. Razer's signature matte black aluminium construction on both the satellite units and the huge subwoofer looks great, while there's even Chroma lighting on the satellite units. On top of that, there's plenty of connectivity options including USB, analogue, optical and Bluetooth 4.2, alongside a single control pod that acts as a volume wheel.

AirPulse A200 Speakers (Phil Jones Design)

The A200s are definitely a darker, more 'fun' sounding 2.0 speaker system - with plenty of emphasis on the bass and mid-range, while the treble rolls off quickly. This may not appeal to everyone, but we simply loved the mid-range presentation offered by these speakers. For those looking for a speaker system to simply enjoy music with (instead of listening analytically) the A200s come highly recommended.
