Sony Playstation 3 tops Australia hardware chart

Sony Computer Entertainment Australia will be cracking open the Champagne today as they have announced their Playstation 3 console has outsold all competing products to take the top spot in the first half of the year.

NPD Australia data shows that the Playstation 3 is top spot in Q1/Q2 2012. The publisher have added that the Playstation 3 was also the only games console in the Australian market to achieve double digit sales growth year on year over the same period.

Sony added that the Playstation family, comprising the PS3, PSP and Vita now account for 43 percent of hardware sales in the Australian market for the first six months in 2012.

The new super slim Playstation 3 console is due to launch in Australia on September 27th, two versions are planned – a 500GB model and a 12GB flash memory version. Prices will be A$400 and A$300 respectively.
