Assassin’s Creed Shadows to get major PS5 Pro upgrades in future patch

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is the first new entry in Ubisoft’s stealth-action franchise to take advantage of Sony’s recently-released PS5 Pro. Despite an already solid uptick in visuals, Sony’s Pro console is set to get a further notable boost in visuals via an upcoming patch.

As part of a technology deep-dive conducted by Digital Foundry’s Alex Battaglia, Ubisoft confirmed to the publication that Sony’s PS5 Pro would be seeing further enhancements in a future update.

For the uninitiated, as it stands the PS5 Pro already brings notable improvements over the base machine, including specular ray-tracing; improved resolutions – and the addition of RT reflections specifically in the game’s 30fps mode.

Fortunately, what few downsides the PS5 Pro version currently suffers from should be ironed out in the future, with Ubisoft confirming that “We use our own TAA implementation that we've continuously refined – though we'll add support for PSSR on PS5 Pro in a future update.”

While this may give some Pro users pause as the implementation of PSSR has not been the greatest across the board, Ubisoft claimed that “after an in-depth collaboration with Sony over the past few months, many issues have been addressed, mostly around moving vegetation and water – problems that other titles have faced, adding “we're now confident that the image quality with PSSR will always be better than with TAA.”

Beyond this, the Pro’s 40fps Balanced mode is set to also see new benefits, with the publisher confirming: “We've continued to optimise RT reflections and the game in general, and we're happy to say that a future update will enable RT reflections on PS5 Pro's balanced mode.”

Given that Digital Foundry already labelled Assassin’s Creed Shadows as one of the better implementations of PS5 Pro support, it is exciting to hear that things will only get better with time.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
