Metroid Dread studio’s new game ‘Blades of Fire’ is coming out in May

MercurySteam, the acclaimed studio behind Metroid Dread and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, announced its new project, Blades of Fire. The studio is partnering with 505 Games to bring this action-adventure fantasy game to life.

The game thrusts players into the role of Aran de Lira on a quest to defeat a tyrannical queen who has cast a spell transforming all steel into stone, rendering her army seemingly invincible. Aran is joined by Adso de Zelk, a scholar who abandons his studies to aid in the quest. He uses his knowledge to decipher ancient texts, unravel spells, and chronicle their perilous journey.

Aran's journey is one of crafting and combat. He can create various weapons to suit different playstyles using his skills and newly discovered Forge Scrolls. With seven weapon families and over 30 Forge Scrolls to discover, players can experiment with various combinations to overcome the game's challenges. Blades of Fire features over 50 unique enemy types.

Blades of Fire is set to launch on May 22nd, 2025, for PC via the Epic Games Store (10% off), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Pre-orders are open now, offering early birds exclusive bonuses like the Iron Paladin and Lord of Steel outfits for the protagonist, forging materials, and weapon cosmetics.

While Blades of Fire is the studio's current focus, MercurySteam might have another project brewing. A 2023 financial report from minority investor Nordisk Games revealed that the studio is actively working on two games. First, there's Project Iron, likely the fantasy title now known as Blades of Fire. The second game remains unknown, but rumours circulating in February suggested MercurySteam might be involved in another Metroid title.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
