ASUS reduce motherboard shipment targets

ASUStek, one of the world's largest technology companies have had to reduce their motherboard shipments from the original plan of 25 million units in 2012 to 22.2 million units. CEO Jerry Shen acknowledged the reduction in shipments and the final figure is a reduction from the 23.2 million shipped in 2011.

Shen added that he believed there would only be three major motherboard companies left in the market in 2013.

Demand for motherboards has declined in 2012 in Europe and America, and growth in China has not met expectations. This has forced manufacturers to drop their shipment figures in 2012.

Asustek expect to ship 5.5 million units in Q4 2012, down 5% sequentially.

Closest competitor Gigabyte shipped 14 million motherboards between Q1 and Q3 this year is are expected to ship 4.5 million units in Q4. Their annual shipments are estimated to be around 18.5 million units, which would be an increase on 2011.

Kitguru says: It is a tough industry right now with sales figures not making initial expectations for many companies.
