Rainbow Six Siege has had a good run over the past decade, but it seems Ubisoft is now keen on a reset. According to a new report, Ubisoft is planning to reveal Rainbow Six Siege 2 later this month.
As reported by TGP, Rainbow Six Siege 2 is apparently set to be announced at the Six Invitational 2025 tournament, scheduled to take place between February 14th and 16th.
The game is said to be in development under the codename ‘Siege X' and could release as early as this Summer. The game will not repeat old events from the first game, instead focusing on new ones, although we'll no doubt see some fan-favourite events return eventually, assuming the sequel is a success.
It is a risky time to be launching sequels to live-service shooters. The transition from Overwatch 1 to Overwatch 2 was fraught with backlash from fans, and even Valve saw some pushback for its shutdown of CS:GO in the transition to Counter-Strike 2. With that said, Rainbow Six Siege has been around since 2015 and at this point, the roster of agents is so large that it can be a hinderance for getting new players on board. A fresh reset in the form of a sequel is a good way to get around that.
