Half a billion Internet devices now in America

The NPD Group, marketing research organisation have published a report detailing that more than 500 million devices in US homes now connect to the internet.

The report also shows that smartphones and tablets outnumber PC systems, for the first time. NPD said “When you look at the combined number of smartphones and tablets consumers own, for the first time ever it exceeded the installed base of computers.”

The NPD Connected Intelligence Report shows that households now have an average of 5.7 devices, driven mostly by the incredible growth in the tablet sector in the last year.

53 percent of American homes now have a tablet, which is an increase of 35 percent since December. Smartphone figures show that an additional 9 million people have bought one in the last three months.

While mobile devices are exhibiting huge growth, the PC market is still strong. 93 percent of American homes have a PC.

Kitguru says: Still some life in the PC market, thankfully.
