The Witcher 4 trailer reveals Ciri as the new main character

CD Projekt Red first revealed The Witcher 4 a couple of years ago. The game entered full production just this year, so the last thing we were expecting to see at The Game Awards was a full announcement trailer. The Witcher 4 has now been properly revealed, with a full trailer showcasing our new main character.

The reveal trailer for The Witcher 4 landed last night, giving us a four minute look at the game. The trailer, created with Unreal Engine 5, gives us our first look at an older, wiser and more powerful version of Ciri, who has dedicated her life to walking the path of The Witcher after Geralt's retirement at the end of The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine.

While the trailer makes it seem as though we are going to get a version of Ciri that is already well practised in Wither duties, the game's producer, Małgorzata Mitręga, told IGN in an interview that we will be playing through Ciri's early days as a full-time monster slayer:

“She’s about to actually form her own codex, but on her own terms. The way she actually deals with the monsters, the way she deals with quests, the adventures, it’s her own unique way.”

The game is a direct continuation of the previous games, taking place after the events of The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine. While Geralt will no longer be the main protagonist, CDPR has confirmed that he is still alive in this game, so we will no doubt be bumping into him and asking for advice at some point in this new adventure.

The game does not yet have a release date, so don't expect it in 2025, and 2026 may also be a push. Still, CD Projekt Red is clearly eager to start talking about its plans for the future of the series.

KitGuru Says: Considering how The Witcher 3 ended, picking things back up with Ciri in the lead role makes perfect sense. Geralt will still be around, which will be nice to see for fans of the original game.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
