Garry’s Mod reaches new milestone of 25 million copies sold

Garry’s Mod is arguably one of the most influential platforms for user-generated-content, with the ‘mod’ inspiring near-infinite creativity to this day – including birthing some of the biggest current memes. 18 years since its release and Garry's Mod continues to thrive, having now surpassed over 25 million copies sold.

Making the announcement on Twitter in celebration of the game’s 18th anniversary, Garry Newman of Garry’s Mod fame revealed the latest sales stat, saying:

“When Valve first floated the idea of selling Garry's Mod on Steam I said no because.. ‘who would pay for that?’. Well 18 years later, it turns out that 25,560,290 people would. Glad to have been wrong on this one.”

Garry’s Mod 25 million

The previous milestone of 20 million copies was reached back in September 2021, and so to see it continue to sell over a million copies year almost two decades on from launch is impressive to say the least.

As mentioned, Garry’s Mod has had a long-lasting impact, especially thanks to its creative/viral potential – with some of 2008’s best memes and 2024’s biggest all being created with its tools. Here’s to 25 million more copies. Garry’s Mod is on sale right now for 40% off (£4.19).

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
