Fallout 76 surpasses 21 million players

Despite its disastrous launch more than half a decade ago, Bethesda have continued to support Fallout 76 with consistent updates. Alongside a nice boost thanks to the popularity of Amazon’s Fallout TV show, the live-service title has now managed to surpass 21 million players.

Revealing this latest figure in a blog post discussing the game’s recent nomination for ‘labour of love’ in the Steam Awards, Bethesda wrote:

“We'd like to take this opportunity to tell you how far we've come since Fallout 76 launched in 2018 and just how S.P.E.C.I.A.L. you all are. Our key focus over these six years has been to build up this amazing community and to evolve our game to continuously meet their needs through more than 50 free updates. Along the way, our game has grown – and so has our community of players. Since launch we've welcomed over 21 million Vault-dwellers to Appalachia!”

While an impressive figure, in being a live-service game the total number of players is less important than the number of active players – especially as FO76 is available on Xbox Game Pass.

Still, there’s no denying that the team at Bethesda maintaining Fallout 76 have done a lot for the game since its launch all the way back in 2018; and with more content on the way, the total player count will likely continue to grow.
