Amazon Prime begins work on Mass Effect TV series

EA and BioWare have made attempts to bring Mass Effect to the big screen over the years, but plans for films or TV shows have always fallen through. In 2021, EA picked up talks around the idea once again, this time with Amazon. After a couple of years, the Mass Effect series is now in development.

Back in 2021 following the success of Prime show ‘Wheel of Time', Amazon began exploring more adaptations from books and games. One such project that came up was Mass Effect. Now, as confirmed by Variety, Amazon MGM Studios is officially working on its adaptation of Mass Effect.

According to the report, Daniel Casey has signed on to write and produce, while several EA alumni, including BioWare's Michael Gamble, will serve as executive producers. Karim Zreik and Ari Arad, two more executive producers, have experience on series like Daredevil and The Punisher, as well as films like Iron Man and Uncharted.

It is currently unclear if the series will follow the events of the games closely. However, I think it is quite clear that fans will be tuning in to see Shepard and the gang. The success of recent adaptations like Fallout and Sonic have shown that sometimes, giving the fans exactly what they want really is the best move.

KitGuru Says: Many drew parallels between The Expanse and Mass Effect back when that show was still airing. Now, we'll get to see a true Mass Effect series, but it'll take a few years. Given the Sci-Fi nature of Mass Effect, it could also require a sizeable budget for sets and effects.
