Netflix has slashed the budget for its Bioshock film

Back in early 2022, it was officially announced that following the failed attempts at creating a Bioshock film with Universal Pictures, 2K would now be partnering with Netflix to adapt the popular video game franchise into a movie. Since then, we have heard little on the project – though according to new reports, the film has had its budget slashed.

As reported by Variety, the upcoming Bioshock film from director Francis Lawrence (known for Constantine, I Am Legend and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) has had its production “reconfigured” with a renewed focus on being “more personal”. As part of this, the film’s budget has been slashed, though it is unknown by how much.

Speaking on these changes however, producer Roy Lee claimed that “the new regime has lowered the budgets. So we’re doing a much smaller version. … It’s going to be a more personal point of view, as opposed to a grander, big project.”

Aside from the game’s unique aesthetic and setting, Bioshock 1 and 2 in particular are rather personal stories and so even with a reduced budget, in the right hands a Bioshock film could thrive. Hopefully this winds up being the case. We will have to wait and see.

Insider claims Call of Duty could see a massive shake-up including no more annual releases

For pretty much its entire existence, Call of Duty has operated using a familiar model, with the FPS franchise seeing a brand new title released on an annual basis from one of the 3 core COD studios. While this has worked in the past, Black Ops 7 seems to have been a breaking point for some. According to known insiders, Microsoft is now considering a major shake-up, including a standalone Zombies game.
