Analyst reveals the 10 best-selling sports games of all time

For as long as there have been video games, there have been sports games – many of which consistently wind up being one of the best selling titles of their respective years. Following the reveal that the recently-released EA Sports College Football 25 has become the best-selling ‘football’ game of all time, one analyst has shared the full top 10 list of best-selling games in the genre.

As shared by the Executive Director & Video Game Industry Analyst at Circana (NPD), Mat Piscatella revealed the top 10 best-selling sports games of all time in the US, with the list being as follows:

  1. NBA 2K21
  2. EA Sports College Football 25
  3. NBA 2K23
  4. NBA 2K22
  5. Madden NFL 07
  6. NBA 2K20
  7. NBA 2K18
  8. Wii Sports Resort
  9. Madden NFL 08
  10. NBA 2K17

10 Sports

It is worth noting that Wii Resort in particular does not include digital sales, meaning its real position is likely somewhat higher. Furthermore, the list does not take into account the sales of microtransactions – a function which has unfortunately become the primary money maker for most sports games.

Last but certainly not least, as this list pertains only to the US, soccer (aka actual Football) games did not make the top 10, despite being consistently one of the best selling games each year globally.

Given just how US-centric this list is, it would be interesting to see what the top 10 would look like in Europe – or globally.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
