First AMD Granite Ridge (Zen 5) CPU samples begin to circulate

Recently, a new leak surfaced, revealing an engineering sample of an upcoming AMD Granite Ridge CPU. This chip is based on the Zen 5 architecture and is part of the next-generation Ryzen desktop lineup.

The leaked photo shared by VallahExperte (via VideoCardz) features the same Integrated Heat Spreader (IHS) design as the current Ryzen 7000 “Raphael” processors. It's worth noting that the processor does not yet have an official market name, as it is still in development. However, considering its 8-core configuration (16 threads), this chip is expected to be released as either the Ryzen 7 9800X or Ryzen 7 9700X.

It is worth mentioning that the OPN code printed on the IHS has been seen before. A shipping document identified the code as belonging to a 6-core CPU with a TDP of 105W. Additionally, HXL has also shared an einstein@home entry with a CPU featuring the same OPN code, but this time, it was referred to as an 8-core CPU.

AMD has yet to confirm a release date for the Granite Ridge series. However, the first devices built on the Zen 5 architecture are expected to be available this year. It is widely speculated that AMD will officially introduce the next Ryzen series during Computex in early June, similar to how the company debuted the Ryzen 7000 series in 2022.
