Upcoming MWIII maps reportedly pulled in order to be added to Black Ops 6

2023’s Call of Duty Modern Warfare III was in no way the most popular entry in the COD series. Being viewed as one of the better versions of the rebooted MW series multiplayer-wise, MWIII’s campaign and zombies modes left a lot to be desired. It is therefore surprising to see one of MWIII’s best aspects – its multiplayer maps – being gimped in favour of the upcoming Black Ops 6.

As reported by known COD leaker CharlieIntel, “Rumors have suggested that MW3’s final seasons have had a lower amount of new 6v6 maps because Treyarch reportedly has taken SHG's [Sledgehammer Games] maps for Black Ops 6 post-launch seasons,” adding that “It's probably why Season 5 and 6 now only have had 1-2 new maps and more variants, instead.”

Despite each COD entry having a lead development team, we have seen Activision take ideas from one game and bring it into another – with the studios themselves having little say in the matter.

As such, we will have to wait and see exactly how this shakes out, but in many ways this is nothing new for Call of Duty.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
