Star Wars Outlaws patch to fix “incredibly punishing” stealth mechanics

Star Wars Outlaws marks the first major game in the franchise to be developed and published by Ubisoft. As is typical with many Ubisoft titles, Outlaws is an open-world game which also features a more action-adventure styled guided campaign. While mostly enjoyed by many, one of the biggest complaints have come with the game’s undercooked stealth mechanics – something which the team have now promised to fix.

In an interview conducted by Gamesradar+, the publication spoke to creative director Julian Gerighty on Outlaws’ controversial reception with regards to the game’s stealth mechanics, admitting that the early-game instant fail missions are “incredibly punishing,” saying:

“So especially, I mean, you're probably thinking of one of the early missions in Mirogana, which is incredibly punishing. And for me, that is a mistake, and this is something that we're going to work on improving,” adding that “I don't think it means removing the fail state completely, but I do think there are millions of low hanging fruits where we can make it so much more enjoyable and understandable.”

Gerighty continued, “We just don't want it to feel unfair. And today, I think it feels unfair. And believe it or not, this wasn't our intention. This is more of something that crept in in the last week or so, and that we're correcting already for a patch that's coming out maybe in 10 days.”

While in no way Star Wars Outlaws’ only issue, the game’s stealth mechanics were brought up as a problem time and time again throughout many reviews, and so it is welcome to see Ubisoft willing to listen and (hopefully) learn from their mistakes.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
