AMD Zen 5 cores to be over 40% faster than Zen 4

Based on the latest reports, Zen 5 is shaping up to be quite the upgrade. According to the latest claims on the upcoming architecture, Zen 5 cores could offer a 40% performance uplift over Zen 4.

Reports from leaker Kepler_L2 suggest that AMD's upcoming Zen 5 CPU architecture may offer a significant improvement over its predecessor. The leaker claims Zen 5's single-core performance in SPEC benchmark tests could be over 40% faster than Zen 4. However, it's unclear whether this is the upper limit or an average figure.

If true, this would be a generational uplift on par with the original Zen core architecture, which exceeded expectations (40%) and was a remarkable 52% improvement over the Excavator architecture.

The Zen 5 architecture will power the upcoming “Granite Ridge” desktop CPUs. These CPUs will be drop-in replacements for the Zen 4-based Raphael series, running on the same AM5 socket. However, Zen 5 should debut a little earlier on mobile platforms via the Strix Point series.

KitGuru says: Would this 40% uplift be enough for Zen 5 to beat Intel Arrow Lake at launch?
