MSI to replace Z790 Tomahawk WiFi motherboards affected by design fault

Recently, several complaints have been made about MSI motherboards, particularly the Z790 Tomahawk WiFi model, failing to turn on or experiencing frequent issues during POST. A tech YouTuber initially brought this issue to our attention, and MSI has now confirmed it, stating it was a manufacturing problem.

YouTuber Joshi Repair (via Tom's Hardware) highlighted fractures on the motherboard's PCH (Platform Controller Hub). One week later, MSI acknowledged the issue on Reddit, saying: “Regarding the MAG Z790 TOMAHAWK WIFI incident, we've discovered that a minority of units may encounter non-functional PCH potentially resulting in Dead on Arrival (DOA) of the motherboard product. We have isolated the cause to a previously used chipset heatsink screw design and have taken proactive measures to address this issue.”

MSI has already revised the chipset heatsink screw design and implemented it into production. The company also promises to replace all faulty motherboards via RMA.

Reddit users have reported PCH damage on the Z790 Tomahawk WiFi model dating back nine months, but MSI is only now acknowledging the issue. MSI has only confirmed problems with the Tomahawk WiFi model, so we assume other MSI 700-series motherboards are not affected by the faulty screw design.
