The Xbox Games Showcase returns with back-to-back streams on June 9th

As previously rumoured, the Xbox Games Showcase will return on the 9th of June. Like last year, Microsoft will be following up its major showcase with another ‘Direct' stream. Last year, the secondary Direct focused on Starfield, but this year's Direct remains a mystery for the time being.

Microsoft did tease that the Direct after the main showcase will feature a “special deep-dive into the next instalment of a beloved franchise”. Given all of the recent rumours around a new Gears of War game, Gears 6 is the first candidate to come to mind for this stream. However, with Microsoft owning so many major IP now, there are many other potential candidates here. The teaser image, seen below, does give off some slight Call of Duty vibes though, so maybe don't get too excited.

Microsoft has also stated that this year's Xbox Showcase will be the very first to feature games from Xbox Game Studios, Bethesda and Activision Blizzard. With that in mind, we can expect Microsoft to get back on board with Call of Duty marketing. The company largely dominated the Xbox 360 era due to the console's association with Call of Duty, a situation that changed in the PS4/Xbox One generation, when the marketing deal for the series switched to Sony.

The Xbox Games Showcase will go live across YouTube, Twitch and Facebook on the 9th of June at 6PM BST.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
