Xbox has set up a team for game preservation and compatibility

It seems Xbox isn't abandoning backward compatibility anytime soon. In a recent internal communication, Xbox President Sarah Bond stated that Xbox has created a team focusing exclusively on game preservation and backward compatibility.

Windows Central was the first to report on the leaked internal communication sent by Xbox's chief to all Microsoft employees. In the message, Sarah Bond reflected on her first six months as president of Xbox, during which she oversaw hardware and software development. She praised the team's achievements and emphasised Microsoft's commitment to creating a next-generation console to deliver the most significant technical leap in gaming history.

One question on everyone's mind is how Microsoft plans to achieve such a feat when silicon performance gains are gradually diminishing. Microsoft will likely rely heavily on AI to handle the hard work, using some kind of frame-generation technology.

In her statement to Xbox staff, Sarah Bond also revealed that a new team has been formed to ensure game preservation and backward compatibility remain key priorities for the foreseeable future. Additionally, Bond mentioned ongoing efforts to integrate Activision Blizzard titles with Microsoft's services and stated that Diablo IV's top platform is now Xbox after the game's release on Game Pass in late March.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
