Poker-themed rogue-like ‘Balatro’ has sold 1 million copies

Developed by a single person, Balatro is a unique poker-themed rogue-like deckbuilder which launched just under a month ago. In this time, the game has seen a wave of success with universal critical acclaim – leading Balatro to having now sold over 1 million copies,

Making the announcement on Twitter, developer LocalThunk revealed the achievement, saying “This morning Balatro hit a momentous milestone…ONE MILLION COPIES SOLD! We still have some fun things planned for the future, but for now…THANKS A MILLION!”

As mentioned, Balatro released on the 20th of February meaning it sold over 1 million copies in under a month – an impressive feat for a game developed by one person.

Currently available on Consoles and PC, Balatro is said to be coming to mobile devices (Android/iOS) in the future, giving the game an even wider potential audience. It will be interesting to see how Balatro and LocalThunk evolve over time.

And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
