Final Fantasy 16’s PC version is in ‘final stages’, system requirements will be high

While Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is making all the headlines at the moment, which would make it easy to forget that Final Fantasy 16 launched just under a year ago. Like Rebirth, Final Fantasy 16 launched as a PS5 exclusive, but a PC version has already been confirmed and now, Square Enix has given us a much needed update.

Final Fantasy 16 first launched in June and many fans had hoped that the PC version would be out before the end of 2023. Developers were quick to shoot this idea down, stating that it would take longer than six months to get a PC version of the game ready. Now, we finally have an update on the PC version, with producer, Naoki Yoshida, confirming to GameInformer that the game is in ‘the final stages'.

“In terms of where we are in development currently, we're trying to figure out the final stages of optimization right now”, Yoshida said. “When we can release the PC version might be dependent on that – the system requirements and specifications for PC that players will need, so we're trying to figure that out.”

Yoshida also warned that the PC specifications for the game are “looking to be somewhat high”. If you played Final Fantasy XV on PC, that may not be much of a shock. Additionally, Final Fantasy 16's 60FPS performance mode on PS5 had plenty of pitfalls, with massive resolution drops to achieve the higher frame rate in battles. Still, we can hope that the game's graphical settings will be scalable enough to support less powerful hardware, like the Steam Deck.

KitGuru Says: There is no word on a release date yet, but at this rate, I would assume that the PC version of Final Fantasy 16 will be dropping this summer, rather than later in the year. After that, we can turn our attention to the incoming PC version of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, which will no doubt fall somewhere into the 2025 calendar.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
