Remedy’s recent success will allow for better publishing agreements

Remedy Entertainment has always been a relatively niche studio. Known for creating the original Max Payne games, the studio recently found a great deal of success with their two most recent releases – Control and Alan Wake 2. Thanks to these two titles, the company has claimed that they are now in a better position than ever to negotiate with potential publishing partners.

Alongside the announcement that Remedy Entertainment have acquired full rights to the Control series from publisher 505 Games, the company posted a press release discussing the future of the studio, saying:

“This transaction will enable us to negotiate better deals for current and future Control games. We can now weigh up the options between self-publishing and a new publishing partner for Condor and Control 2.”

Remedy continued, “At the same time, we are in a better negotiating position than before as Control is an established brand and Alan Wake 2 has been successful. We are confident that these factors combined will enable us to get the right partner, deal structure and risk-reward profile that benefit Remedy and are the best fit for the Control franchise.”

This statement is especially notable as Remedy’s most recent release – Alan Wake 2 – was published by Epic Games, meaning the PC version is currently exclusive to the Epic Games Store. As of right now, it is unknown whether Alan Wake 2 will ever come to Steam.

Unlike most other timed Epic Games Store exclusives, Alan Wake 2 (as well as Alan Wake Remastered) were actually published by Epic Games themselves – leaving its future on other PC platforms unknown.

That said, it is exciting to see that given the success of Alan Wake 2, Remedy are now in a much better position to hopefully bring their future titles to more platforms on their own terms.
