Microsoft’s next Xbox console will bring the “largest technical leap” in a generation

We already know through court document leaks that Microsoft is already well into planning its next generation Xbox console. Surprisingly, Microsoft is now talking about its next-gen plans openly.

We should be at least four years away from the next console, according to documents leaked through the court system during the FTC vs Microsoft trial over the acquisition of Activision Blizzard. However, Xbox President, Sarah Bond, did publicly tease the next console during the recent Official Xbox Podcast, stating that it will bring the “largest technical leap” ever.

In an interview with The Verge, Phil Spencer also mentioned new hardware, even adding the idea of creating ‘unique hardware', which is believed to allude to a potential Xbox handheld, something that has been rumoured many times over the years.

Xbox is supposed to make a new hardware announcement this year, but that could be anything from a new Elite controller, to a streaming device, to a true handheld, to a refreshed Xbox Series X/S console. We'll no doubt learn more this summer when major announcements start coming through.

KitGuru Says: 2028 is still quite a long way off but Microsoft seems to be groundwork early for next-gen consoles. Primarily, I think this is a rebuttal to the idea that Microsoft is planning to wind down hardware creation and fully commit to being a multiplatform publisher.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
