Meta reportedly scraps Quest Pro 2 and AR glasses to double down on Quest 3

Earlier this year, Meta officially announced plans to launch the Quest 3 headset later this year. Since then, Meta has apparently rethought its strategy, scrapping plans for a Quest Pro 2 and other devices to focus all resources on the Quest 3.

According to a report from The information, Meta has recently told Quest Pro suppliers that it is winding down Quest Pro support and won’t need new supply by early next year. Once available materials for the Quest Pro run out, the headset will no longer be produced. It is also claimed that Meta has subsequently cancelled development of the Quest Pro 2.

Meta was also apparently working on a new pair of smart glasses, but that project has also been scrapped for now as well, assuming the source is accurate.

This frees up more resources to support the Quest 3, which is due to hit the market later this year, likely in October. The Quest 3 will offer twice as much power as the Quest 2 and improved visuals, priced at $499.

KitGuru Says: The Quest and Quest 2 headsets proved to be sustainable, but the Quest Pro failed to garner much interest due to its high price point. Refocusing on the standard Quest experience is the right move, as there is already a market there with room to grow.
