The Last of Us Part 3 isn’t coming anytime soon

The Last of Us has been back in the news recently thanks to the announcement of The Last of Us Part II Remastered. The new version will be updated to take advantage of the PS5's more powerful hardware and will pack new game modes. Unfortunately, it sounds like we aren't any closer to a true sequel.

Nobody really knows what Naughty Dog is working on right now but it has been heavily rumoured that the studio's next game will be a new IP. The Last of Us Part 3 is also rumoured to be in the works but according to one of the voice actors from the series, no script has been produced yet. Speaking with Dexerto, Jeffrey Pierce, voice actor for character Tommy Miller, gave an update on the status of The Last of Us Part 3 from his side, saying: “At this point it’s not something that has begun in any fashion, at least, not that I know of”.

Game development is a long process and we know that Naughty Dog didn't begin work on The Last of Us 3 immediately after the second game, if it has at all. With that in mind, it isn't too surprising that the voice actors involved aren't aware of future plans yet. If the game is in development, then voice actors may not hear about it for quite some time, as the writers continue to refine the script and other teams work on prototyping and start putting the foundations for the game in place.

While Pierce has not heard anything about The Last of Us 3 yet, he does still expect to get the call to record for it sometime in the future.

KitGuru Says: Given all the indications that Naughty Dog is working on a new IP, it shouldn't be too surprising to hear that there isn't any news on a third The Last of Us game. We're likely to get one eventually due to the popularity of the series, but it is unlikely to happen within the next couple of years.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
