The group behind 2020 Capcom hack has been arrested

Back in November 2020, Capcom revealed that it had suffered a major security breach. Cyberattackers managed to infect Capcom's systems with ransomware and steal private data, leading to a number of leaks. Now almost three years later, the people behind the attack have been arrested.

The ransomware group known as Ragnar Locker has been shut down following an international law enforcement investigation spanning 11 countries. The Capcom attack back in 2020 led to the leak of private data, including employee personal information and even spoilers for games like Resident Evil 4 Remake, which was still in development at the time.

Now after years of investigation, the Ragnar Locker group has been caught, with several arrests taking place between the 16th and 20th of October this year. The investigation's prime target was arrested in Paris. Other arrests took place in Spain, Latvia and Czechia, where computers were also seized.

Capcom has not yet commented further on the 2020 attack or the recent arrests. Still, even with groups being taken down, it is important for companies to remain vigilant, as social engineering, phishing scams and ransomware are still prevalent tools wielded by hackers to gain access and steal information.
