Ubisoft announces free-to-play platform shooter ‘BattleCore Arena’

Free-to-play games typically come with quite a big risk. Though the game could in theory make no money whatsoever due to its F2P nature, free-to-play titles have topped the charts for years now, with revenues far exceeding premium titles. One company which has consistently tried to enter the F2P market is Ubisoft – now announcing their competitive platform shooter ‘BattleCore Arena’.

Making the announcement, Ubisoft officially announced BattleCore Arena, a “free to play competitive platform shooter where gravity mastery is the key to victory. Use your trusted weapons and abilities to eject your opponents out of the arena in style.”

Looking like Rocket League mixed with other free-to-play titles, BattleCore Arena is far from the first free-to-play effort from Ubisoft, with just some of the failed prior attempts including Hyper Scape and Roller Champions. That said, the publisher has also had a string of F2P successes, including the likes of Brawlhalla and Trackmania – meaning BattleCore Arena could easily wind up going in either direction.

Regardless, those who are interested in BattleCore Arena can sign up right now for the game’s technical test, which is set to go live between the 1st and 5th of February.
