Square Enix devs want to remake Final Fantasy 6

While not officially announced, we do know that Square Enix is working on a Final Fantasy 9 remake. As it turns out, the Final Fantasy team doesn't want to stop there, with internal devs requesting that Final Fantasy 6 gets the remake treatment next.

In a video on the Square Enix YouTube channel, Yoshinori Kitase, the director of Final Fantasy 6, confirmed that developers inside the company have been asking him about the possibility of a Final Fantasy 6 Remake. You can see the full quote in the tweet below, as translated by Genki.

For now, Square Enix is focused on the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, which is getting a Part Two in 2024. Beyond that, we know through leaks that Square Enix is also working on a Final Fantasy 9 remake, which could push a 6 Remake back a bit further.

Final Fantasy 6 is one of the most beloved games in the series, often ranking highly amongst long-time fans and players. It was also the last 2D-pixel-based mainline Final Fantasy game.

KitGuru Says: Given that Final Fantasy 6 was the last 2D game in the mainline series, it may be difficult to remake. If you just want to appease long-time fans, then an HD-2D remake may suffice, but if you want to bring in a lot of new fans, the jump to 3D graphics will be a necessity.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
