Tekken 8 confirmed to have Rollback netcode and cross-play

Tekken 8 serves as one of the biggest fighting games set to release within the next 365 days, and yet there is still a lot we do not know about the impressive-looking title. Two of the most important features to many are the inclusion of cross-play to maintain an active player base and rollback netcode in order to ensure a stable and fair game. Fortunately, it has now been confirmed that both are present in the upcoming Tekken 8.

Katsuhiro Harada – the director of the Tekken series – took to Twitter to respond to one fan who asked “Can we get crossplay Harada” by stating: “Crossplay? Of course I will.”

Interestingly, Harada offered a great deal more information on the notion of crossplay, adding that “When the previous generation consoles were released, I had already proposed crossplay between the two platformers. However, at that time, they were at odds with each other over their mutual interests (and P2P security issue) & repeatedly refused.”

Following up, another Twitter user asked “Ok but will there be rollback?” to which Harada confirmed “already installed it, and it already has what you want. The reason WHY we don't make big announcements like cross-play is Cuz even if we make big announcements, people like you will only say things like, ‘waaaa! That's normal in this day and age.’ So shut up & sit the hell down.”

Odd concluding statement aside, it is exciting and a relief to see that both crossplay and rollback netcode are present in the upcoming game. Both features have only become the norm in recent years and so it would have not been too surprising if either feature didn’t make the cut. Fortunately, this is not the case.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
