John Wick creator is adapting SIFU to live-action

Nowadays it seems as though any successful video game is likely to be adapted into another medium. Such has been the case with Sonic the Hedgehog, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Pokemon, and so many more. The latest game announced to be getting a live-action adaptation is the breakout indie martial arts game SIFU.

As reported by Deadline, Story Kitchen is partnering with development studio Sloclap to adapt their most recent (and highly successful) video game ‘SIFU’ into a live-action feature film.

Derek Kolstad will adapt the script, with Dmitri M. Johnson, Mike Goldberg, Kolstad, Dan Jevons, Timothy I. Stevenson and Jeff Ludwig all attached as producers.

Kolstad is best known for his work on the John Wick series (having created the franchise and written the scripts for the first 3 films), as well as the Bob Odenkirk-starring ‘Nobody’ (where he also served as executive producer).

SIFU is known for its impactful and flashy combat, and so to have someone familiar with the genre working on the script is encouraging. It will be interesting to see whether SIFU’s more mystical elements (such as the game’s aging mechanic) will make it into the film. If nothing else, at least the action will look cool…hopefully.
