Microsoft is reportedly cutting jobs across Xbox and other divisions

Microsoft is currently battling with regulators to push through its record-setting acquisition of Activision Blizzard in a deal worth roughly $70 billion. Despite the massive piles of cash Microsoft has at its disposal, the company is still shifting things around, with plans for roughly 1,000 layoffs in the coming months.

According to Business Insider's sources, Microsoft is cutting down its workforce in an effort to be leaner. Less than a thousand jobs will be impacted, which works out to less than 1% of Microsoft's total workforce, which prior to this, stood at around 180,000 employees spread across the globe.

While Microsoft hasn't confirmed the layoffs just yet, it has been reported that this has impacted the Xbox division, in addition to other areas, like devices & services, and Studio Alpha – Microsoft's wargaming and simulation-focused studio.

For its part, Microsoft says it will “continue to invest and hire in key growth areas”.
