CS:GO achieved a new peak concurrent player count record over the weekend

Just last month, prior to rumours of CSGO 2 heating up, we saw a new peak player count record for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, surpassing over 1.32 million concurrent players. Now following mounting evidence that a Source 2 upgrade is on the way, a new peak concurrent player count record has been set for CSGO.

As confirmed by the official CS:GO Twitter account, and backed up by SteamDB, CS:GO surpassed 1.4 million concurrent players on Steam. More specifically, 1,420,183 players were logged into CS:GO at once on Saturday, marking a new record for the game.

It would seem that community interest in the game has risen thanks to rumours that a big refresh is coming. A few weeks ago, an Nvidia driver update leaked the existence of two new Counter-Strike launchers, one labelled csgo2.exe and another labelled cs2.exe. Shortly after that, sources claimed that CS:GO would soon be updated to the Source 2 engine and be updated with new matchmaking features.

Dataminers have also found that Valve has been preparing a new blog post for the Counter-Strike website and additional code strings for CS:GO on Source 2 were found within a Dota 2 update.

Valve has not yet made any official announcements regarding new Counter-Strike content or the upgrade to Source 2. However, if previous reports are accurate, we should get an official announcement before the end of the month.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
