Henry Cavill is leaving The Witcher, Liam Hemsworth to play Geralt

Henry Cavill impressed many fans with his performance as Geralt of Rivia in the first seasons of The Witcher. Unfortunately, with Cavill now returning to his role as Superman in the DC movies, he is stepping away from The Witcher, and a replacement has already been chosen.

Since The Witcher's third season has already been filmed, Cavill will appear as Geralt once again in Season 3. From season 4 onwards, Cavill will no longer be in the show, instead, Liam Hemsworth will take on the role.

In his announcement, Cavill said: “My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4. In my stead, the fantastic Mr Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf. As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam's take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men.”

Netflix's new Geralt, Liam Hemsworth, also had some words to share: “As a Witcher fan I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia. Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honoured that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure”.

KitGuru Says: Given that Geralt is the main character, replacing his actor partway through the show will be quite jarring.
