Star Wars Jedi: Survivor overhauls gameplay with multiple fighting stances

For many, 2019’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order served as one of the best Star Wars games to be released, thanks to its focus on offering a single player story while also making the act of swinging a lightsaber feel fun. The team at Respawn Entertainment are not resting on their laurels however, as Fallen Order’s sequel looks set to be taking gameplay up a notch.

Ahead of the game’s release on the 17th of March 2023, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor director Stig Asmussen took part in an interview with Game Informer where they discussed the many upgrades coming with Jedi Survivor – in particular the addition of fighting stances – saying:

“We have five fully realized stances in the game. A lot of it depends on the enemy that you're coming across. It's advantageous to use certain types of stances against certain types of enemies, and it's up to the player to figure that out. It requires the player to break down the enemies and figure out what the best weapon of choice is.”

Some of the stances shown off so far include a dedicated dual blade stance; a blaster and lightsaber combo; and a heavy stance utilising a crossguard lightsaber – to name a couple. These new additions not only serve a gameplay purpose, but also reflect the themes of the story itself, with Asmussen explaining:

“It really speaks to where we find Cal in this part of the story. It's five years since the first game, and the dark times are still in full swing. He's an unconventional Jedi, and he has to do unconventional things. So, something that would be frowned upon during the height of the Jedi Order? Cal's finding he's going to do whatever it takes.”

Star Wars Jefi: Fallen Order was already so well received, it will be interesting to see how well the follow-up performs, especially with so many new additions being put in place. The full interview can be found HERE.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
