Xbox October update adds many quality-of-life improvements

Microsoft has in recent years been keeping its consoles up to date on a consistent and monthly basis, adding new features, removing old bugs and making the overall experience much better. For the month of October, Xbox owners will be privy to a number of new and convenient quality-of-life improvements.

Making the announcement on the Xbox Wire blog, Jonathan Hildebrandt, the Principal Group Program Manager for Xbox Experiences said “Team Xbox is excited to continue bringing new ways to make Xbox better, with you at the center, as we refine the experience and deliver brand-new features based on your feedback”. With that, just some of the new features dropping with this update includes:

  • A search bar has been added to the top of the Xbox console home screen, making it easier to quickly search for games, apps, and media content.
  • Xbox Series X|S consoles can use an HDMI feature called Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) to send commands to and from CEC-enabled devices such as TVs that are connected to the console – enabling you to alter your TV’s volume using your Xbox.
  • We previously reported that you will soon be able to mute the console’s start-up sounds; this is now available.
  • You can now select or change your primary console for family sharing purposes.
  • New console power modes are available.
  • Firmware update for Xbox controllers.

For a console as consistently updated as the Xbox, it is good to see genuinely useful features being added, making the console not only more accessible, but more functional, personable and personal.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
