Don’t expect a new game announcement from NetherRealm any time soon

It’s been three and a half years since NetherRealm Studios released Mortal Kombat 11 to great success, but fans are beginning to wonder what the team is cooking up next. NetherRealm Studios founder Ed Boon has now officially commented on the matter.

2022 marks the 30th anniversary of Mortal Kombat, and as such, the team at NetherRealm Studios have been celebrating this major milestone. That being said, with it having been more than 3 years since the last NRS game, fans have begun to itch for information on what to expect next. Taking to Twitter, Ed Boon preached patience to fans, saying:

“PSA/FYI We know a lot of you are excited about the next NRS game announcement & it will happen in due time. But first it all about 30 years of Mortal Kombat. That's what we're going to celebrate and focus on. Our next game announcement will be separate from MK30.”

Since the studio’s founding in 2010, NetherRealm Studios have managed to release a new video game every two years, beginning in 2011 with the Mortal Kombat reboot; followed by Injustice: Gods Among Us in 2013; MKX in 2015; Injustice 2 in 2017 and most recently Mortal Kombat 11 in 2019.

With it having been the longest time in between game releases – yet alone even an announcement – it is understandable if fans are getting somewhat impatient. Still, with MK30’s celebrations set to end in a few months, hopefully we will hear about their upcoming project in 2023.

KitGuru Games: Predicting the Next Half a Decade of Call of Duty Releases

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790) famously once said: “The three absolutes in life are death, taxes and a new Call of Duty coming out every single year”. Sure enough, the US founding father has yet to be proven wrong, with Activision and a dozen studios having ensured that come the tail-end of any given year, there will be a new COD ready to release. And so, what can we expect from the franchise later this year? What about 2027, 2028 or even 2030? By looking back at the past two decades of Call of Duty games, their trends, progression and regression, I believe I can predict the next 5 years worth of annual COD entries.
