Xbox Games with Gold will stop offering X360 games from October

Xbox Live Gold is Microsoft’s long running subscription service which allows for console owners to access multiplayer functions within games, while also giving away a number of titles for ‘free’ on a monthly basis. From October onwards however, Microsoft will no longer include Xbox 360 games as part of ‘Games with Gold’.

In an email sent by Microsoft to Xbox Live Gold members (archived HERE by The Verge), the Xbox team announced that “From 1 October 2022, the monthly games provided to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and Xbox Live Gold members via Games with Gold will no longer include Xbox 360 titles.”

According to the console manufacturer, the reason for its conclusion is due to them having “reached the limit of our ability to bring Xbox 360 games to the catalog,” though they did not elaborate further on what exactly this means.

As expected, any games already in your library will remain accessible to you indefinitely. We saw Sony stop offering PS3 games as part of its PlayStation Plus service all the way back in 2019 and so it was only a matter of time before Xbox followed suit.

Considering the fact that many of the monthly Xbox 360 games being offered were repeats, the decision to no longer include 7th-gen games makes sense. Hopefully the quality of Xbox One/Series games are improved in compensation.
